Dr Ben Phillips – Consultant Histopathologist
Ben has been working with OHSS since June 2014. His professional expertise focuses on the review of all urine samples resulting in any form of unusual or abnormal findings, thus identifying the potential need for further investigation.
Ben’s wealth of expertise and experience includes his role as a consultant histopathologist working at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. He was appointed in 2010 after entry on to the specialist register and becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists. Ben specialises in breast and endocrine pathology, and also reports a broad range of diagnostic cytology. He performs fine needle aspiration (FNA) with immediate interpretation once a week at the Churchill Hospital, Oxford. These are largely thyroid FNAs, but he regularly performs aspirates of other sites, particularly palpable lymph nodes. Since 2010 Ben has reported nearly 5000 cytology specimens and performed over 3000 FNAs. He is passionate about cytology and it’s role in the diagnostic pathway.
Away from work Ben enjoys running, taking part in triathlons and is hoping to qualify for the London marathon in 2016 as well as a future Ironman. He is a keen fisherman enjoying the sport with his 5 year old son Sam who is showing great potential! Ben loves listening to music and attending live concerts and in his earlier years wrote and recorded music – he’ll get back to it one day!
