Following the unexpected death of her father in 2014 Tina, mother of two daughters, breast cancer survivor and a career in the corporate event industry, made the decision to continue her father’s legacy. Supported by the loyal and longstanding OHSS team she drew on her own personal and professional experiences to manage the company.
Lynda joined the team at OHSS in 2000. She is an experienced urine cytologist specialising in the identification of bladder cancer cells. Lynda screens all the slides with meticulous care and attention, referring even the slightest of abnormalities to Dr Ben Phillips for review and further investigation where appropriate.
With a BSc (Hons) in Applied Biology, Lynda worked for 16 years at the British Rubber Manufacturer’s Association (BRMA), initially as a Laboratory Technician in their Health Research Unit. Following a two year intensive urine cytology training programme she worked with two other Technicians processing over 400 slides a week. Lynda was promoted to Senior Technician with key responsibilities including quality control and staff training programmes for internal and NHS staff.
In her spare time Lynda enjoys reading crime stories, walking her two dogs and holidaying in Skiathos, one of the beautiful Greek islands!
Nic is responsible for the co-ordination and despatch of the several thousand urine sample kits sent to individuals each year. Her precise and systematic approach is vital to ensure an accurate and efficient process and high quality customer service. Nic joined OHSS following a career break; spent with her two young children during their pre-school years. Prior to that, Nic gained a BA honours degree at the University of Northampton in European Business with French. Her work experience includes sales management roles for Coca-Cola, Nestle and T-Mobile. Nic enjoys singing in a band, running for fitness and raising money for charity.
Under the leadership of Andrew Smart, Managing Director – Severn Biotech, the laboratory team are responsible for the preparative work used in the cytological investigation and screening of bladder cells.
This is conducted by a dedicated team of experienced graduate Biochemists, who extract the cells from the urine samples which are then plated and stained, ready for microscopic examination.
The microscope slide preparation is both delicate and time consuming, requiring diligent expertise to manipulate cells into a format than can be viewed by microscopy, and is crucial to accurate cytological examination.
