Lynda Onion – Cytologist

Lynda joined the team at OHSS in 2000. She is an experienced urine cytologist specialising in the identification of bladder cancer cells. Lynda screens all the slides with meticulous care and attention, referring even the slightest of abnormalities to Dr Ben Phillips for review and further investigation where appropriate.

With a BSc (Hons) in Applied Biology, Lynda worked for 16 years at the British Rubber Manufacturer’s Association (BRMA), initially as a Laboratory Technician in their Health Research Unit. Following a two year intensive urine cytology training programme she worked with two other Technicians processing over 400 slides a week. Lynda was promoted to Senior Technician with key responsibilities including quality control and staff training programmes for internal and NHS staff.

In her spare time Lynda enjoys reading crime stories, walking her two dogs and holidaying in Skiathos, one of the beautiful Greek islands!
